"Arousing of a mighty monster from his sleep..."

Two weeks and fewer than two days until I set flight to Germany for the first three weeks of the World Cup. Can't wait, and I shall post at greater length later about that much-maligned nation - and a rather excellent Guardian series of articles about that old Anglo-Deutsch "Liebe/Hass", er, thing...
But I am a little concerned. While excited at "doing" Bavaria for the first time, for part of the adventure, I'm a little put out by recent reports of snow.

After all, the last time we had a proper white winter blanket over here, I was disturbed to catch sight of an evil snowman, holding an abacus.

Well, I say he was "evil".
He certainly looked very cold and calculating.

Lucky you - will have to keep an eye out for your paper's Bavarian Correspondent over the next few weeks.

I went to Munich a few years ago for the Oktoberfest and had a great time, despite most of it passing in a fog of beer and bratwurst.

Good luck in finding decent vegetarian food in the most sausage-driven society in Europe!

Shame on you for that joke!

Although I heard a terrible one a few days ago: They're going to make a sequel to the Da Vinci Code. It'll be called I Know What You Did Last Supper.

Boom-TSSH!

I shall be there too Akr, so we should meet up. I shall be with another few hacks also. You have my number anyway I do believe...

I'm hoping even Germany can't be any more veggie-unfriendly than Portugal two years ago (no prizes for guessing the reason for the visit). I think even the ice cream came with little chunks of ham inside...

Thanks for that, Galatea, safely stored for future use... Goes nicely as a companion piece with my perfume-obsessed amphibian "gag", which I've previously inflicted on dear readers...

Indeed.

Ah... Lame jokes. Sometimes a joke is so bad it is almost good... Or at least we have to admit that it's one heckuva brave fella to stand up and tell it! : p
